Applying for
Citizenship
In Tartupaluk, we believe that
every nation should have a voice in international affairs,
and that every citizen should have a voice in government.
We are home to the world's only functioning
direct-democracy legislative system.
Our Constitution grants every Tartupalummiut citizen the
right to speak and vote in the Legislative Assembly and
contribute to the drafting of our laws. What's more, every
citizen can stand and vote as a representative for other
citizens in the Assembly--at their pleasure--a status that
can be rescinded by a represented citizen at any time.
This citizen-centred approach to government puts power
into the hands of our people and lets them set the
priorities for public debate.
Now is a great time to apply for Tartupalummiut
citizenship. Not only does Tartupaluk impose no direct
taxation on its citizens, but a citizenship law has not
yet been passed by the Legislative Assembly, so
citizenship status is still acquired according to
customary procedures. In effect, this means that all
recognized Tartupalummiut nationals who apply are granted
the benefits of citizenship by the government, without
discrimination of any kind.
Already, Tartupaluk has one of the most diverse
Legislative Assemblies in the world. Our active, voting
members come from North America, Europe, the Middle East,
and Asia, and are of all ages and walks of life. But we
are always looking for new voices and fresh ideas for the
future of Tartupaluk and the world. Our Assembly was set
up to accommodate the needs of a highly mobile,
traditionally nomadic society, so you can participate
without even leaving your current home, no matter where it
happens to be.
To apply for Tartupalummiut citizenship, simply follow the
instructions contained in the document accompanying your
confirmation of Tartupalummiut nationality. If you no
longer have a copy of this document, contact the Office of
the Greffier by e-mail at
gov@tu.net to
request a replacement.
