  Visiting Tartupaluk

Tartupaluk
is one of the most remote islands in the world, and it sits in the middle of one of the world's most inhospitable environments. Visiting Tartupaluk is complex and expensive. It is also potentially a very dangerous proposition. The entire legal permanent population is prevented from staying in Tartupaluk continuously due to its remoteness and harsh weather conditions. Currently, accommodation and supplies on the island are severely limited. Even so, visits to Tartupaluk can still be arranged.

Article 6 of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees every person on Tartupaluk access to safe and effective shelter and sufficient supplies of drinking water and food. In order to ensure that our government can meet these obligations, it is necessary at this time for any person who is not a Tartupalummiut national and plans to visit the island to register with the Office of the Greffier and apply for a Visitor's Permit from one of Tartupaluk's representation offices abroad at least three months before the date of their expected arrival in Tartupaluk.

Personnel traveling to Tartupaluk for scientific research or economic, social, or cultural development purposes may qualify for government assistance for their projects.

For more information on visiting Tartupaluk, contact the Office of the Greffier by e-mail at gov@tu.net
