  <description>HSH the Prince submitted a written statement to Tartupaluk's Legislative Assembly today concerning proposed amendments to the Constitution currently in deliberation before the house. The Prince indicated his willingness to ratify the amendments provided they receive the required two-thirds support of the members but indicated he would oppose an amendment to exclude foreigners from Executive Council service should it be passed with a smaller majority.</description>

  <description>Tartupaluk's Legislative Assembly passed an initiative at midnight Saturday establishing a government-run statistics system for the Principality. The initiative was signed into law by the Prince late Sunday. The new law formally establishes the National Statistical Office and calls for the appointment of a new Executive Council member, a Chief Statistician, to administer it. The bill was sponsored by the Prince in February and is the second law passed by the Assembly this year.</description>

The long-awaited changes to the previous rules, in place since December, institute mandatory periods of general debate at all meetings, following strict guidelines, that are not moderated by the President of the Assembly.</description>

<description>The Legislative Assembly of the Principality of Tartupaluk passed an initiative at midnight Wednesday establishing August 13 each year as Tartupaluk's National Day. The initiative was signed into law by the Prince today. The bill proposing a National Day was the first to be introduced to the Assembly through a citizen-sponsored ballot initiative. It becomes the first law passed by the Assembly in 2007.</description>

<description>After two days of meetings, Tartupaluk's Executive Council released its first policy today. The policy outlines the Prince's regulatory responsibilities with regard to the translation of government documents and sets a procedure by which translation requests are to be made. Little progress has been made to use Inuktitut alongside English in official business since Tartupaluk's independence was declared last August.</description>

<description>HSH the Prince released a proclamation today giving his assent to the Convention on Future Cooperation in the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries and announcing the transmission of written notification, accompanied by a formal instrument of accession, to the Government of Canada, as Depositary of the Convention. The transmitted notification commits the Principality of Tartupaluk to membership in the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization.</description>

The new law formally establishes the Office of the Greffier, which has been operating since August under the terms of Article 31 of the Constitution, to administer the registry. The bill was sponsored by the Prince in October and is the first law passed by the Assembly.</description>

<description>HSH The Prince enacted a law today establishing the Order of the Northern Bear of Tartupaluk, the country's first chivalric order and its highest honour. The Order is to be conferred in recognition of meritorious service to Tartupaluk or to humankind. The first recipients are expected to be announced by the Executive Council this November. The law was signed in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where the Prince is on Inuktitut language training.</description>

<title>Strong start for tau in forex trading</title>

<description>The Tartupalummiut Monetary Unit (tau) held its own against the world's major currencies during its first week of foreign exchange trading, closing the week at 11.753 cents US, up 0.02 cents over its Monday close against the dollar and up 0.04 versus the yen. The tau also held its ground against other European currencies, down less than 0.01 euro cents against the Euro and 0.01p versus the pound.</description>

<description>HSH the Prince released a proclamation today giving his assent to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the WIPO Convention and announcing the tranmission of instruments to the WIPO Director General committing Tartupaluk to membership in the Paris Union and to financial contributions to WIPO at the Class VII rate, pending a UN contribution assessment. The proclamation was made from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where the Prince is on a 5-day working visit.</description>

<description>HSH the Prince enacted a Law Establishing the Official Currency of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today. Under the new law, the Bank of Tartupaluk is given the authority to issue Tartupalummiut Monetary Units (TUU). The currency is expected to remain freely convertible with all major reserve currencies and official exchange rates are expected to be relaeased daily by the Treasury beginning in two weeks' time.</description>

The Bank is to be known as the Bank of Tartupaluk in English and Tartupaluk qattujuq kiinaujakkuvik in Inuktitut. The Bank, incorporated as a subsidiary branch of the Treasury, has been given broad powers to set monetary policy in the Principality as well as the exclusive right to issue media of exchange payable on demand for use in the Tartupalummit financial system.</description>

According to the new law, the official languages of Tartupaluk are English and Inuktitut. The Prince expressed his hope that legal protection of the Inuktitut language will assist in preserving Tartupalummiut culture while the equal adoption of English as an official language can only hasten Tartupaluk's development and its integration into the world community.</description>

It guarantees Tartupalummiut the protection of the law against violations of their fundamental rights and freedoms, including access to adequate water, food, shelter, and good government, and some more controversial measures, including the right to die.</description>

<description>HSH the Prince signed a Proclamation of Sovereignty and Independence of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today by order of the Tartupalummiut people. Tartupaluk becomes the world's 203rd sovereign State and the first country to declare independence since Montenegro on 3 June. The Prince in his proclamation seeks association with other States and pledges to observe provisions of the UN Charter and endeavour to gain worldwide support for Tartupalummit independence.</description>
