TARTUPALUK ESTABLISHES FIRST ORDER OF MERIT
2006-09-11: HSH The Prince enacted a law today establishing the Order of the Northern Bear of Tartupaluk, the country's first chivalric order and its highest honour. The Order is to be conferred in recognition of meritorious service to Tartupaluk or to humankind. The first recipients are expected to be announced by the Executive Council this November. The law was signed in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, where the Prince is on Inuktitut language training.

STRONG START FOR TAU IN FOREX TRADING

2006-09-01: The Tartupalummiut Monetary Unit (tau) held its own against the world's major currencies during its first week of foreign exchange trading, closing the week at 11.753 cents US, up 0.02 cents over its Monday close against the dollar and up 0.04 versus the yen. The tau also held its ground against other European currencies, down less than 0.01 euro cents against the euro and 0.01p versus the pound.


PRINCE GIVES
ASSENT TO PARIS, WIPO CONVENTIONS
2006-08-21: HSH the Prince released a proclamation today giving his assent to the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property and the WIPO Convention and announcing the transmission of instruments to the WIPO Director General committing Tartupaluk to membership in the Paris Union and to financial contributions to WIPO at the Class VII rate, pending a UN contribution assessment. The proclamation was made from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where the Prince is on a 5-day working visit.

TARTUPALUK'S OFFICIAL CURRENCY ESTABLISHED
2006-08-14: HSH the Prince enacted a Law Establishing the Official Currency of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today. Under the new law, the Bank of Tartupaluk is given the authority to issue Tartupalummiut Monetary Units (TUU). The currency is expected to remain freely convertible with all major reserve currencies and official exchange rates are expected to be released daily by the Treasury beginning in two weeks' time.

TARTUPALUNGMI CENTRAL BANK CHARTERED
2006-08-13: HSH the Prince enacted a Law Respecting the Central Bank of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today. The Bank is to be known as the Bank of Tartupaluk in English and Tartupaluk qattujuq kiinaujakkuvik in Inuktitut. The Bank, incorporated as a subsidiary branch of the Treasury, has been given broad powers to set monetary policy in the Principality as well as the exclusive right to issue media of exchange payable on demand for use in the Tartupalungmi financial system.

TARTUPALUNGMI OFFICIAL LANGUAGES LAW ENACTED
2006-08-13: HSH the Prince enacted a Law Establishing the Official Languages of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today. According to the new law, the official languages of Tartupaluk are English and Inuktitut. The Prince expressed his hope that legal protection of the Inuktitut language will assist in preserving Tartupalummiut culture while the equal adoption of English as an official language can only hasten Tartupaluk's development and its integration into the world community.

TARTUPALUNGMI CONSTITUTION SIGNED
2006-08-13: HSH the Prince signed the Constitution of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today. It establishes the Government of the Principality on the values of respect for human dignity and reason, freedom, equality, and the rule of law in accordance with the Tartupalummiut Charter and expresses the Prince's wish for the peaceful development of Tartupalungmi society and his Government's embrace of diversity, non-discrimination, tolerance, and justice.

TARTUPALUK'S CHARTER OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS SIGNED
2006-08-13: HSH the Prince signed the Charter of Rights and Freedoms of the People of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today. The charter embodies a commitment to sharing with all Tartupalummiut a peaceful future based on common values. It guarantees Tartupalummiut the protection of the law against violations of their fundamental rights and freedoms, including access to adequate water, food, shelter, and good government, and some more controversial measures, including the right to die.

TARTUPALUK DECLARES INDEPENDENCE
2006-08-13: HSH the Prince signed a Proclamation of Sovereignty and Independence of the Principality of Tartupaluk at Suursaq today by order of the Tartupalummiut people. Tartupaluk becomes the world's 203rd sovereign State and the first country to declare independence since Montenegro on 3 June. The Prince in his proclamation seeks association with other States and pledges to observe provisions of the UN Charter and endeavour to gain worldwide support for Tartupalungmi independence.
